Bismarck, ND - The North Dakota Securities Department recognizes April Bender, a 9th grade student from Sawyer Public School, as the North Dakota winner in the Stock Market Game INVESTWRITE essay contest. InvestWrite is an innovative writing competition, produced by the Stock Market Game (SMG) program that adds a critical thinking component to help reinforce concepts learned in the classroom. Students entering this essay competition, must be currently registered in the Stock Market Game program, coordinated and provided to schools by the North Dakota Securities Department.

The perfect companion to the Stock Market Game, this writing component and competition reinforces students' newfound knowledge and hones critical thinking skills, said Diane Kambeitz, Coordinator of North Dakota's SMG program and Investor Education Coordinator for the ND Securities Department. In addition, 'InvestWrite' builds a bridge between classroom learning and the real world. 'InvestWrite' complements the Stock Market Game program learning experience and easily integrates across subjects throughout the curriculum.

The essay competition is judged by a national panel of judges and must contain three critical areas, including: understanding of the subject matter by exhibiting knowledge regarding the concepts of research and planning an investment strategy; must involve a rationale or logical thinking process; and possess a writing style that exhibits the ability to communicate thoughts in an engaging and inviting manner.

We hope to see more North Dakota students in grades 4-12 take advantage of this excellent complement to the SMG program, said Kambeitz. InvestWrite provides an excellent opportunity for students to compete in the national competition, with winners receiving some fabulous prizes, as well.
