North Dakota Securities Commissioner Karen Tyler recently chaired the annual North American Securities Administrators Association Investor Education Conference, held November 5 & 6 in Championsgate, Florida. 85 administrators and financial education directors from securities regulatory agencies in the United States and Canada attended the event.

The focus topics of this year's conference included: working with coalitions and partnerships, utilizing research to build support for and funding of financial education, innovative new financial education programs, and access to funding sources.

State and provincial securities regulators recognize that financial education is the foundation of financial preparedness, and the first and best defense against investment fraud and exploitation, said Tyler. We also recognize that there is a direct correlation between the financial decision-making aptitude of our citizens, and the economic health of our families, businesses, communities and countries.

The NASAA Investor Education Conference supports efforts by securities regulators to deliver jurisdiction-specific education programs at the grassroots level that are designed to help investors and future investors make wise financial decisions and avoid investment fraud.

Appointed as Securities Commissioner by Governor John Hoeven, Tyler has served as the chair of the NASAA Investor Education Committee for the past two years and was recently elected to the NASAA Board of Directors.
